Bird Flu Kills Younger People

Bird flu seems to have the tendancy to kill younger people, teens and young adults, much like the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic. The median age of confirmed cases of the H5N1 avian flu strain was 20 years old according to statistics the WHO have released.

"The differences in the age-related case-fatality distribution among H5N1 cases are reminiscent of those observed during previous influenza pandemics, particularly in 1918, where case-fatality rates were higher among young adults," the study said.

Fatalities from the H5N1 have almost tripled this year as it spreads in wild birds and domestic poultry across Asia, Europe, and Africa, as well as cases starting to appear in the US and Canada.
