Egypt: Four Women Die of Bird Flu in One Week

egypt.jpgIt's been a difficult week for Egypt on the bird flu front as the fourth woman in a week has now died of bird flu bringing the total human deaths in Egypt to 19. This latest cluster of deaths are likely a result of being in direct contact with infected poultry and as of now, human-to-human transmission is not suspected.

The women of egypt face a difficult challenge combating bird flu because it is typically women who handle poultry and raising poultry on the house premises is commonplace. Outside of Asia, Egypt has now tallied the most human deaths due to bird flu.

In addition to Egypt - Burma and Pakistan are now dealing with new outbreaks. Egypt has recently ordered the cull of 1600 birds which are suspected to be infected with the avian flu virus.
