Human Bird Flu Cluster Fears in Sumatra

Could we be getting closer to a human transmittable bird flu faster than we can find a vaccine or cure? Well, in Indonesia there were seven people all from the same village in Sumatra, being treated for bird flu like symptoms. So far they have not confirmed if it was the H5N1, but they do know that all of them were most likely infected by chickens and not from each other.

The three children, two siblings aged 10, and six and their 18-month-old neighbour were admitted to the Adam Malik hospital in Medan on Tuesday after showing signs of the disease.

Medical officials have said that their condition is stable, and they are suffering from the usual fever, flu and cough associated with bird flu.

This is the second major outbreak in the Sumatra area, the last one being in May.
