It's Never A Bad Idea To Be Prepared

checklist.jpgA fifth member of an Indonesian family has died of bird flu and fear in Indonesia is growing. The World Health Organization is keeping a close watch on this case as the threat of human-to-human mutation is still looming as a possibility while more extensive testing is done. Perhaps what is most puzzling and worrisome of this case, is that bird flu has not yet been found in local poultry.

With the ongoing threat of a pandemic, it is probably wise for families to start thinking about preparing for one.

The experts said families should create individual and group plans they'll follow if a pandemic develops. "I'd have a list of all your medicines, all your doses, your doctors, and key personal contacts as well," Smith said. "Have that ready, and do some practice, so that if something happens family will know what to do."
There is a checklist at the Center for Biopreparedeness Education which is based out of Nebraska and could be used as a starting point. Pandemic Flu Planning Checklist for Individuals and Families (.PDF).
